Is it Time to Add Positive Affirmations To Your Everyday Life?

Do you struggle with negativity? Do you find it hard to feel good about yourself? Could it be that it's time to use positive affirmations every day to put a boost of positivity into your life?

The problem with negative thoughts is that they can become self-fulfilling prophecies. We talk ourselves into believing that our thoughts are true. And, as a result, these thoughts drag down our view of ourselves. This affects our work, relationship with others, and ourselves.

It’s completely normal to have negative thoughts about yourself and this is often referred to as self-sabotage. A negative mindset might make life difficult, but it doesn't have to be. A simple solution to this constant negativity is to use positive affirmations. Not only are they easy to introduce into your daily life but they can bring automatic positivity to your life. This positivity can start almost as soon as you begin to use them.

To put it another way, affirmations have the power to change your negative thinking patterns just like we might rewire an electrical circuit

What Are Positive Affirmations?

Using Affirmations in the form of self-speech can help people make changes to their moods, thoughts, and feelings. Positive affirmations are powerful statements about what you want your life to look like. They can help replace negative thoughts with positive ones, which are often more fulfilling and you’ll soon see the benefits.

It's not easy to change the way you think, but it can be done. Affirmations are an effective way to make these changes because they're designed to emphasize your strengths and positive qualities.

Affirmations are simply positive statements that can help you to challenge and overcome self-sabotaging and negative thoughts. When you repeat them often and believe in them, you can start to make positive changes.

Affirmations aren't just for people who struggle with negativity, though. They can be used by anyone who wants to harness the power of positive thinking in their lives. Positive affirmations work well when combined with other methods like journaling, meditation, or exercise, They can also help you feel better about yourself and the world around you too!

How To Use Them

At first, it is natural to feel a little silly, especially when saying your affirmations in the mirror (which I find most useful)

But try looking at positive affirmations this way. Many of us do repetitive exercises to improve our physical health like running, walking, and weights. Affirmations are like exercises for our brain, improving our mental wellness. Our brains are wonderful, adaptive things and constantly evolving and learning.

Positive affirmations are beneficial, so they should be used daily. But don't worry! You don't have to say them aloud. You can say them in your head or out loud if that feels better for you.

It's important to read the affirmations repeatedly until you believe them. This will help your brain get on board with the positivity and make it easier to feel good about yourself.

Here are seven easy ways to use positive affirmations every day.

7 Ways To Use Positive Affirmations Every Day:

1) Read a book, article, or blog post about something you want more of in your life. Something that makes you happy. Make note of any phrases that resonate with you, and use them as an affirmation. Always use the present tense - ‘I am ……’Make it short and succinct.

2) Start with a few mins in the morning and evening. If you find this challenging then add a few post-it notes around your bathroom mirror, kettle, or in your purse/wallet, to remind you.

3) Write down what you want in life and what would make you happy on a piece of paper. Maybe how you can achieve a set goal. Perhaps an affirmation about becoming stronger or even just sitting down for five minutes for some "me-time" at the end of the day. Create an affirmation from one of the sentences you write down and repeat it silently, or loudly, whenever you need to, throughout the day.

4) Make sure you make your affirmation personal to you. I have used some great ones, that mean a lot to me, but if they don’t resonate with you, then create your own that speak to you.

5) Whatever you do, make your affirmation realistic, no matter how many times you repeat ‘I will win the lottery it’s unlikely to happen.

6) Write down three things that went well today and what made them go well in a diary or journal before bed each night before sleep. Read and re-read this list again and again.

7) And finally and most importantly add feeling to your affirmation, try not to make yourself sound stern but be kind and gentle to yourself you are a soul that needs love and nurturing.

A little Bit Of Magic - Positive Affirmations & Meditation Series

Find The Right Words For You

Different affirmations work for different people. The most important part of this process is to find affirmations that resonate with you and your needs.

The first step is figuring out what you want to focus on. Do you want to reach a goal, feel more confident, manage stress, or be healthier? When you know what your affirmation should be about, finding the right words becomes easier.

Repeated out loud or in your head. They can include words like "I am," "I love," "I feel," etc. For example, if you want to focus on feeling more confident at work, try saying: “I am a confident person and I’m not afraid to do whatever needs to be done.”

Make Your Own List Of Positive Affirmations

There is one thing for sure, positive affirmations can be powerful, but they can also seem a bit bland. It's up to you to make your own list of affirmations that are right for you and your situation.

To get started, write down five things that bring you happiness or make you feel good about yourself. Now take those five things and make statements that start with "I am", "I will", "I can", as a way to create affirmations that are uniquely yours.

For example, if one of the things that makes you happy is being organized, your affirmation could be “I am organized and I live my life beautifully."

Schedule Time For Positive Affirmations

It's best to schedule time for your affirmations. This will help you stick with it and not allow life to get in the way of your newfound positivity. Affirmations are a powerful tool that can be used as an aid in changing behaviours, beliefs, thoughts, or feelings about yourself and others from negative ones into positive ones. When practiced regularly they have been shown to increase happiness levels by helping people focus on what is good instead of dwelling on their problems all day long.

The great thing about positive affirmations is that they can be thought, written, spoken, and even shouted out, at any time in practically any place. Personally, my favourite place is on my yoga mat but wherever you are, you can practice your affirmations, whenever you need to. Whatever way you choose, just try and make sure that you repeat your affirmations every day for a real boost to the positivity in your life

Conclusion

Positive affirmations are a simple and easy way to boost your mood, energy, and productivity. Give them a try, "I am positive you will you'll be pleasantly surprised by the results" - see what I did there?

Should you add Yoga and Pilates in the workplace? Do you want to help your workforce feel more valued? Even when they're working from home? yes absolutely! Let's dive in and see the top 3 reasons to add yoga and pilates in the workplace:

In today’s health conscious environment and our busy lifestyles, we know that everyone is trying to fit as much into their hectic schedules as possible. Juggling family commitments, workloads and relationships all take priority. These can be completely time-consuming, leaving us with little or no time for ourselves. Yet we all know the phrase “ Place your mask on and breathe deeply, before helping others”

Take this phrase out of the context of airplane travel and apply it to life, in particular our work life. It highlights the fact that, if we take good care of ourselves first, we can in turn perform our tasks better. We can function well and so be more productive. This is the headline of why we should add Yoga and Pilates in the workplace, but there are far more benefits:

Top 3 Reasons To Add Yoga And Pilates In The Workplace

1: STRESS AND ANXIETY RELIEF

In 2020, of British adults in employment – a staggering 79% commonly experience work-related stress. This makes work-related stress the most common form of stress in the UK. Compared to 59% in 2018 – data from the 2020 Workplace Stress Survey carried out by Perkbox reveals that work-related stress is on the rise.

It’s well documented that the pressure of work creates stress and anxiety. Statistics from the Health And Safety Executive show that 17.9million working days were lost due to work-related stress, depression, and anxiety in 2019-2020. This number is only growing due to the ongoing restrictions imposed by COVID-19.

The HSE Labour Force Survey goes on to say: In 2019/20 stress, depression or anxiety accounted for 51% of all work-related ill health cases and 55% of all working days lost due to work-related ill health.

For no other reason than increased attendance and therefore productivity this should be the number one reason to add Yoga and Pilates in the workplace and the lives of your workforce. Whether that be physically in the workplace, or currently in their own space, as so many people are working from home.

2: MORALE BOOST

Over the past few years, there has been a trend to move away from heavily competitive corporate environments. People have moved to more inclusive, encouraging, and morale-boosting workplaces, non more so than Virgin Limited Edition championed by Sir Richard Branson. Sir Richard believes the better you look after your staff, the better they will look after your clients.

Offering your employees FREE access to feel-good activities such as Yoga and Pilates in the workplace makes your team feel more valued. This results in less staff turnover. Research has shown that companies that regularly offer a range of activities, seemingly just for the benefits of their employees, enjoy more success. Their workforces are more bonded and tend to work in a more collaborative and trusting manner.

3: INCREASED FOCUS

The addition of Yoga and Pilates in the workplace, as a feel-good activity, is particularly more effective than any other at increasing the ability to focus. A study has shown that just 20 minutes of Yoga a day could help your brain focus better. Researchers found that people did better, both speed-wise and accuracy-wise, on brain functioning tests after just 20 minutes of Hatha yoga.

Neha Gothe, a professor of kinesiology, health, and sport studies at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign, ran the study when he was a graduate student. He said in a statement - “The breathing and meditative exercises of Yoga aim at calming the mind and body and keeping distracting thoughts away while you focus on your body, posture, or breath.

It appears these processes translate beyond yoga practice when you try to perform mental tasks or day-to-day activities," The study was published in the Journal of Physical Activity and Health. The ability to control the mind and focus on the task at hand is a vitally useful skill to have in a fast-paced workplace where multitasking is a way of life. Yet again a superb reason to add Yoga and Pilates in the workplace.

Transform Your Body, Mind, And Soul With Yoga

To find out how to transform your body, mind, and soul you need to start at the beginning. Where did yoga come from?

Yoga is a branch of Indian Philosophy and can be traced back to the Vedic culture around 2000BCE. It is closely entwined with Hindu Religion and is associated with other traditions like Buddhism and Jainism.

Today it is more suitably described as a spiritual practice rather than a religious one. This means anyone can practice yoga and it means that you can follow a spiritual path. In Yoga terms, this is known as a path of Good living. It can help you live a balanced and healthy lifestyle that will transform your body.

What Is Yoga

Over time different schools and different styles of yoga have been practiced. All are designed to, as Patanjali says ‘Chitta Vritti Nirodha’ This means, the cessation of the turning of the mind, which will transform your mind and soul.

Westerners today usually think that yoga is simply a variety of physical postures. The name yoga, itself, translates to ‘Union or unite’. Therefore through yoga, we can rebalance, bring harmony and connect not just our body but our mind and soul also.

How Does Yoga Transform Your Body, Mind, And Soul

During your yoga practice, you open your body and mind with yoga postures (Asana) and breathing (Pranayama). Through this, you become receptive to the delightful and profound experience of inner stillness. This is why yoga is so powerful and able to transform your body, mind, and soul.

For one moment, there is the reality of just that time, where we can dip a toe into a place of magic and peace. Eventually, that moment becomes a minute. Then, with practice, we learn to have control over our emotions and stress reactions.

Like all disciplines yoga requires training. It's rather like ‘life training’, the more you do it, the better you become at letting go. It is a fabulous tool to transform your body, mind, and soul, in fact, your whole life.

Why Practice Yoga

So why should we practice yoga? Well any practice that centres yourself is important. This way it is easier to be calm and focused in all that we do, especially as so many people suffer from being in a constant state of anxiety or stress.

It would seem that the modern world rewards behaviour that results in chronic stress. In 1974 RH Rosenman led a study in America to try and define behaviour that contributed to Coronary Heart Disease. The patterns of behaviour are ‘hard driving’ effort or striving for achievement, competitiveness, aggressiveness, and impatience.

People who had these characteristics were twice as likely to have CHD than those that didn’t, yet many see these behavioural traits as desirable in the workplace. If we continually subject ourselves to high levels of stress to try to overachieve, then we are liable to cause physical and mental injury.

How To Cope With Modern-Day Life With Yoga

If this is the way of the world, we need to teach ourselves ‘tools’ to deal with it. Most students start their yoga class feeling restless. Most students leave the class feeling like they have been brought towards a ‘Sattvic state’(A feeling of balance, peace, and clarity).

Through yoga, we can influence our own reactions to stress and find a means of eliciting a more appropriate response to modern life. Yoga helps you bring focus, it enables you to de-stress and ease. It unwinds you, gives you joy and it enables your body to move freely and slows down your ageing. If your yoga class gives you all of these things you will indeed transform your body, mind, and soul and it is the right yoga for you.

The Benefits Of Yoga

Yoga is associated with not just benefits of the subtle body but has boundless physical benefits too. Often benefits can be immediate and life-changing. Obvious benefits like increased strength, suppleness, and stamina.

Unlike many sports, yoga works on all of your body's muscles and enhances balance, improving posture and grace. One of the most magic benefits of yoga is that it cleanses and conditions your internal systems. It enhances your body's natural processes like digestion, elimination, and detoxification. Regular practice of yoga can alleviate symptoms of asthma, backache, headaches, high and low blood pressure, and Coronary Heart Disease.

Yoga is a system that is of benefit to everyone, regardless of age, religion, and experience. If practiced regularly yoga will transform your body, mind, and soul

Top Six Yoga Postures & Poses That Really Will Transform Your Body

Regular yoga practice offers a mountain of physical benefits as well as the emotional and spiritual ones previously mentioned. Each posture has its own, individual benefits and a complete yoga class should include a variety of postures so your body gets the full effects.

Whichever posture you choose, know that the practice alone will improve not just your strength but your balance and posture too and this will stay with you all day long.

Standing Postures

Mountain, Warrier I, II and III, Dancers Pose, Tree and Triangle are just a few of the standing poses. All have amazing benefits for our bodies. Quite literally these postures will transform your body. In addition to correcting and realigning skeletal imbalances safely, standing postures stand alone in providing a concise and balanced approach to self care.

With regular practice we can see increase in strength and balance. These postures work in a more subtle way too. Standing poses help you gain inner strength and courage. They help you to open yourself up to others and they remind us that we need to feel strong from the inside-out and take up space in the world.

Inverted Postures

Why are inversions important? Inversions like head stands, shoulder stands, downward dog or bridges (actually anything that brings the hips above the head) activate the parasympathetic nervous system. They stimulate our rest and digest response. They also give our body's system time to rest. Gravity is reversed and venus return is encouraged.

This just basically means everything moves back into place and your heart gets a little bit of a rest. Inversions greatly improve your core strength, balance and focus and by being upside down we reverse the ageing process and improve troublesome varicose vines

Detoxifying Twists

Twists are my favourite as you can feel them working, its palpable. Twists improve your digestive function. In a twist you are literally compressing your digestive organs. Once you relieve your twist, freshly oxygenated blood quickly returns to your organs, filling them with a fresh life force. This increases their ability to function well, whilst cleansing your body of impurities. This is what Iyengar called the “squeeze and soak”.

Not only do twists work on the inside but they have obvious benefits to the spine. Gently rotating the spine under controlled conditions will keep you subtle and moving freely right through to your old age. This is why it's my favourite, so many essential benefits in a simple and manageable collection of postures.

Forward bends

I love these restorative postures, especially Uttanasana (Standing forward bend). The benefits are bountiful and the ability to transform your body, mind and soul is enormous, yet the posture is effortless. On a physical level, forward bends reduce stress, anxiety, depression and tiredness. A simple forward fold can relieve tension in your upper back and neck. It calms your mind and soothes your nerves.

Not only do forward folds work on an emotional level but a physical level too. Your whole spine from tail to crown will get a beautiful stretch and will keep it long and flexible. You will stretch the whole posterior side to your body, hamstrings, hips and calves will also get a deep yet, safe stretch.

Back bends

Tough but an essential part of your yoga practice. Back bends such as Upward Dog, boost your mood and inject energy into your body. Ustrasana (camel) opens the heart/chest which improves respiration. It expands the abdominal area to help regulate digestion. It improves your posture and helps eliminate lower back pain.

So many excellent benefits, it's worth persevering with these challenging postures.

Strengthening Planks

Perhaps one of the simplest poses to practice. Phalakasana (PlankPose), is not to be underestimated. Whether you choose a conventional front-facing plank or a reverse plank, this pose strengthens, tones, and transforms your body throughout. By literally holding your body in a horizontal straight line you are developing core strength and stability.

As you rest on either straight or bent arms and only your toes, you are increasing the flexibility in your feet. You are also improving your balance through your arms and shoulders.

If You Want To Transform Your Body, Mind And Soul - Make Yoga A Regular Part of Your Life

As you can see from just this short blog, yoga can encompass many things. It's not just a series of stretches. It's an activity that will positively transform your body, mind and soul. You get out of yoga, what you put in and that's not meant to be a competitive statement.

You don't have to execute perfect poses and you don't have to compete with the person next to you to get the best from your practice. Remember it's YOUR yoga so practise your yoga in a way that feels good for you. In addition, all I would say is, that if you want to transform your body, mind and soul you need to practise your yoga regularly and make it part of your life. I know by doing this yoga transformed my life.

Where To Access Yoga

Nowadays yoga is accessible in so many ways at any time of day or night: local studio classes, one one-on-one sessions with teachers and online on video with Tabitha Yoga On Demand are to name but a few. You can practice it alone or with other like-minded people. The main thing is that you do it. So why roll out your mat wherever you are and start to transform your body, mind, and soul today?

The Dreaded C Word

The one thing I always want to say to anyone who is suffering from breast cancer is "We can help you to relieve breast cancer symptoms by using yoga and Pilates". How do I know this? because I've been there and done it.

Hi, I'm Jackie and I remember it like it was yesterday. I'd found a lump (probably the best known of all the breast cancer symptoms) in my breast and I was now sitting down with my consultant. Two weeks before I'd had a mammogram and a biopsy, that had to be sent away to be analysed and I was now going to receive the results.

Although extremely experienced, my consultant seemed a little nervous and spent some time making small talk with me about my holiday. I noticed and thought it was a little strange but I wasn’t overly anxious. I’d told myself the lump in my breast was due to hormonal change and was probably nothing, but best to get it checked.

Now I just wanted that to be confirmed so I could get back to my family at home. Then came the dreaded C word - “I’m sorry but it’s Cancer” he said.

From that moment on my life completely changed in an amazingly fast whirlwind. Medical treatment began for my breast cancer symptoms, starting with breast surgery, then radiation therapy, and finally with 6 months of chemotherapy. That, being arguably the most harrowing time of my life and that of my family.

Why Cancer Chose Me?

I have no idea why Cancer chose me. I was a fit, active woman who ate healthily didn’t smoke, and only occasionally drank alcohol. There was no particular reason that we could pinpoint. Even though I started from this standpoint the resulting breast surgery, radiation therapy, and chemotherapy left me reeling, feeling weak, incredibly ill, and quite frankly, at times, like I wasn’t going to get through it.

All of these, I have come to learn are common breast cancer symptoms. Thankfully I have a great support network in my husband, family, and friends, and with their love, positive encouragement, and physical help I did get through it.

With A Little Help From My Friends

One of those friends is Tabitha Wright, Yoga & Pilates Teacher and Owner at Shine With Tabitha Yoga in Derbyshire. Upon hearing of my diagnosis, she rallied around very quickly to offer me her support to help me.

I shared with her, some of the breast cancer symptoms I was experiencing. Huge things like the constant anxiety – due to thoughts about my mortality, and nausea – caused by the rounds of chemotherapy every 3 weeks.

I also told her I was suffering from gut inflammation and bloating – caused by the "toxic poison" I was filling my body with. I also shared with her, the overwhelming feeling of sadness – caused by watching the painful stress I was putting my family through daily.

She recommended that I start practicing Yoga because therapeutic activities like yoga can complement cancer-fighting medical treatment to help heal the body, mind, and spirit in the midst of the cancer battle.

Tabitha told me that, what has made a significant difference to her in her life, is her introduction and subsequent experience with the practice of Yoga over the past 20 years. She said, “Yoga and Pilates have quite literally transformed my life and I would like to help you to use yoga and pilates to relieve breast cancer symptoms for you.”

Tabitha Wright – Yoga & Pilates teacher

Tabitha first started the practice of Yoga at the age of 24. She often recounts the story of being in ‘Warrior’ pose, feeling the strength and foundation it provided, and knowing intuitively that Yoga was something she must explore and be a part of.

Two decades on, marriage, a successful 'first' career, and 3 children later she now practices and teaches Yoga and Pilates in Derbyshire and Online. She trained and qualified with the British Wheel of Yoga in 2007 and with Pilates in 2014.

“I find the physicality and depth of connection with core strength enables a renewed and refreshed outlook on life. It can be some of the big things in life or just some of those daily challenges; this is what I try to bring to my students of Yoga and Pilates in my classes at Shine With Tabitha Yoga.”

How Yoga & Pilates Helped To Relieve Breast Cancer Symptoms In The Midst of Treatment

Although I was in the middle of my battle with Cancer, Tabitha designed a yoga class for me that I could do in the comfort of my home. It was designed to get me moving gently and specifically to ease my digestion and to aid my gut inflammation. She also recorded some relaxation and meditation to calm my anxiety and lift my spirits.

These were a Godsend. I practiced all of them as often as I could, particularly in the good weeks between my rounds of chemotherapy. They really did help. I felt stronger, less anxious, and much more positive after I’d done a class and a relaxation. I knew then, Yoga was something that I was going to continue doing all my life, not just to relieve my breast cancer symptoms.

Tabitha Yoga On Demand Was Born

My Cancer treatment came to an end just before Christmas and I was determined I was going to work on getting better every day until I was fighting fit and healthy again. I began going to Tabitha’s Studio Yoga and Pilates classes every week. Working on my physical core strength and stamina and my spiritual being to get me in a much better place in both body and mind

Over the last few years that has continued and the bond between Tabitha and I has grown even stronger. So much so that, we teamed up together to bring Tabitha’s classes online so that many more people could enjoy practicing them in their own time and space whatever their situation. Tabitha Yoga On Demand was born.

How To Get Through The Pandemic And Beyond

Back in January 2020 nobody expected the year to roll out the way it did. No-one was prepared for a full on pandemic to hit the world and no- one was prepared for it to still to be around, a year later. None of us were ready with the answer to, "how do we get through the pandemic and beyond?" nor do we have ways to deal with the changes it's brought about. We have all had to draw upon the knowledge and experience we have, so, after practising for the last 25 years, I naturally turn to Yoga. I trust that the many benefits of yoga will help get me through the pandemic and take me far beyond it, so I'd like to share with you just what those benefits are and, how, by practising a little yoga everyday, we will all help ourselves to get through the pandemic and beyond.

The Benefits Of Yoga

For The Body

Yoga improves your flexibility, mobility and balance and this is so important. Good flexibility allows your body to move in whatever way you wish and it helps you to be generally more active. To quote Bob Harper "yoga is the fountain of youth. You're only as young as your spine is flexible". Great balance makes you stronger which means you're less likely to fall and increased mobility means simple tasks like looking over your shoulder whilst driving or lifting patients will be made easier….these benefits are endless.

For The Mind

Yoga has more than just physical benefits for your body: The BBC television programme ‘Trust me I'm a doctor", although not a clinical trial, showed that yoga reduces blood pressure and anxiety in the same way and to the same extent as attending a hard core Gym session. The most wonderful thing about yoga is that it calms and clears the mind, helping to centre feelings and ground yourself so enabling management of stressful situations. Yoga has been proven to reduce the levels of cortisol in the body, lower levels of stress, anxiety and depression.

For Health

Yoga improves your breathing. Yoga helps optimise the performance of your lungs and can lead to improving your lung function. When we focus completely on our breath we tap into the parasympathetic nervous system, letting the body know it's time to relax and enter into total and complete rest. Yoga helps improves sleep quality. Poor sleep has been associated with HBP and depression. Studies by sleepfoundation.org show that including a small amount of yoga into your routine will help improve sleep patterns. The more often you access relaxation through yoga the easier it is to access at bedtime, its like working and strengthening your relaxation muscle. Yoga may also reduce inflammation.

My personal experience of yoga is that it enables you to think in a clear and balanced way. I'm able to manage my monthly emotional fluctuations. I'm also strong in my body and in my immunity.

Ok, so now you know what practising a little yoga everyday can do for you, what else can you expect when you join in a yoga class with me.

What Happens To You In A Class -

Stilling of busy minds….again this takes practice but like a muscle strengthening it gets easier.

Physical activity (always to your own level)

Deep considered and controlled stretching

Reducing and easing the physical signs of tension.

Spending a moment in time just for you and to check in that you really are ok today.

Time to explore the amazing things your body can do in the privacy of your own home.

At this time of social distancing and staying at home you may be asking where can I find a class that I can attend whenever I am able. The good news is that you can find one right where you are now. You can join me in my yoga and Pilates classes, daily live on Zoom and you can see the class timetable and book a class right here Checkout The Class Timetable

If the class timetable does not suit you, then you can also join me online anytime, via Tabitha Yoga On Demand, where you will find a growing library of Yoga and Pilates Video Classes Relaxations and Meditations too.

The Key To Getting Through The Pandemic and Beyond

I hope now, by being introduced to the amazing benefits of yoga you can see, and hopefully feel, if you've already started your practice, that yoga works to maintain your overall health, both bodily, mentally, and spiritually. If you continue to practice yoga regularly, it will help you to stay as healthy as possible and guide you on your own journey to get through the pandemic and beyond. By helping yourself you will be able to help those around you too, after all, "You can’t pour from an empty cup"

Shape Up For Summer in 6 Weeks - WEEK 1 STRETCH OUT AND WARM UP. Welcome to the Shape Up For Summer in 6 Weeks Series - I've designed this six week plan to take you from now through to the summer holidays where, if you practise all 6 pilates classes every week you will work every part of your body.

Honing and toning every muscle so you will look and feel amazing in your swimming costume on the beach. This 6 week summer shaper will not only get you beach body ready for summer but it will make you fitter, stronger, healthier and as a result happier.

In each class I will show you how to get in shape for summer with each class building on from the previous class. In week 1 we'll stretch out and warm up all of our muscles preparing them thoroughly for the next 5 workouts to come.

If you're not used to doing regular exercise make sure you do the Shape Up For Summer in 6 Weeks WEEK 1 STRETCH OUT AND WARM UP at least 2-3 times before you move onto the next class in the series. The aim of 6 week summer shape up is to build up to doing all six classes in one go and then repeating them each week until you feel like the best version of yourself and you can go and have the most fabulous summer holiday.

In addition, you are suddenly in the driving seat, making things happen in your life. Whether it be trying new things or maybe doing something you've always wanted to do but something always got in the way. Just in this act alone, we become more positive in our outlook. Suddenly self-worth and self-esteem are triggered and we all know how often those things are sapped by modern living.

I was never taught dance as a child, but I have always loved the flow and freedom that seems to emanate from tap dancers so I have decided to take action and try new things and I have started taking lessons. It’s much harder than it looks and I feel very exposed to learning a new skill. I have to say I’m really enjoying it. Maybe I’ll uncover my hidden talent for tap and go on to win loads of competitions. Maybe I’ll just feel like I am starting to flow and move and continue to enjoy the experience. Either way, I feel good about getting on with it.

As March begins and Spring doesn’t seem so far away, give yourself a lift and top up those self-esteem reservoirs. Decide on what you want to do (or maybe need to do), but most of all - take action and try new things! Why not start by joining me now on your yoga journey?

“Click”, I've reset my watch, and the time has changed for winter it makes me think how easy it is to see what is bad about change; the evenings are darker, the weather is getting colder, and we have the whole of winter ahead of us. But without change in your life nothing gets better, nothing grows; no one can fulfill his or her potential without the change that this brings.

Do The Seasons Bring About Change in Your Life?

I tend to enter Autumn in a more reflective state having spent time over the summer doing less teaching and spending more time with my family. It allows me to meditate or just relish the moments we find ourselves in and this gives me space in my head. My teacher used to say, "Physics doesn’t like vacuums and so into that space come thoughts". What is it about the change of seasons that brings about change in your life? It makes me want to hunt out my place where I work things out (a beach in Wales) to make sense of the world and enable me to focus on what’s next.

“Change in your life is not something that we should fear. Rather it is something that we should welcome, for, without change, nothing in this world would ever grow or blossom, and no one in this world would ever move forward to become the person they are meant to be” - BKS Iyengar

Working out what’s next is one of the ways I develop a positive approach to life. It gives me focus. It gives me direction and it gives me hope. All the things that are important to me. The other thing it does is makes me feel as though the change in your life is for me, it’s mine and that means change is good. Take some time to reflect on how the change in seasons makes you feel, particularly at this time of year. Try and draw the positives from these feelings, move forward and you will find change in your life is good for you too.

Why not use this time for change and the development of positive feelings to start your journey to A Healthier Lifestyle

British Summer Time - time to take your yoga outdoors, there's nothing better. It's a time when we can all enjoy getting out more with our family and friends. Whether we're having fabulous family picnics or afternoon garden parties with friends, it's a wonderful time of year for expanding ourselves and becoming one with this gorgeous planet. I particularly love the Summer time because I can finally practice Yoga outdoors under the warmth of the Summer sun. Sometimes, if it's warm enough, under the coolness of the moon.

Those of you who are beginners may not know the origins of Hatha Yoga. The word Hatha is translated as ha meaning “sun” and tha meaning “moon.” In classes, it relates to the balance of masculine aspects, such as hot, active, sun, and feminine aspects, such as receptive, cool, and moon, within all of us. It is a way in which we can unite opposites and create balance.

WHY SHOULD YOU TAKE YOUR YOGA OUTDOORS?

The very act of standing tall with your feet rooted to the ground looking up to the vast sky and the sun makes you feel stronger. It makes you feel calmer, happier, and at one with nature, as we are meant to be. The heat and energy from the sun travel through your body and into your Chakras, warming, revitalising, and energising you. The coolness of the breeze makes you more receptive to your surroundings and metaphorically stroked by its touch. With a higher level of fresh air (than in the studio) I find that I can draw my breath in so much deeper and breathe out so much longer. The sense of relaxation and concentration on myself is much more intense. All this by just standing in Tadasana ( Mountain Pose)

POSES TO INCLUDE IN YOUR YOGA OUTDOORS

All this revitalised energy and warmth is created by the great outdoors. I like to use asanas that are designed to stretch me that little further and also open my mind and body to all the positive ions travelling through me. A nice sun salutation to warm me up and get me going. Add in some combinations of Adho Mukha Svanasana (Downward Dog), Trikonasana (Triangle Pose) for stretching, and of course Vriksasana (Tree Pose) for balance. These are just a few of the Yoga Poses that I really like.

Depending on how you feel, you can do as much or as little as your body tells you, even if it's just lying in Shavasana (corpse pose) and looking far up into the enormous sky above you. The beauty about Yoga Outdoors is that you're free to make it your own. You're not constricted by time nor structure. It's just you and mother nature.

WHERE? WHEN? WHAT? HOW?

So hopefully, by now you're feeling enthusiastic about taking your yoga outdoors, but where should you go? Personally, I love to be on the beach as not only do you get the energy from the sun but you can draw on the power of the sea too. If you can't get to the beach then the local park or walking trails can give you the open space that you need, as well as some wonderfully inspiring views.

When should you take your yoga outdoors? It depends very much on how you are feeling and how you want to feel as a result. I find the best time to go to feel energised and revitalised is first thing in the morning. Yoga outdoors with the sunrise is very special and extremely stimulating. In contrast, if you need to de-stress and relax then take your yoga outdoors in the evening when the sun is setting. I don't think I need to tell you how calming that can be.

The good thing about taking your yoga outdoors is that all you need is your mat and some water. You can set yourself down wherever you want to be. If you add to that your smartphone or Ipad then you can take me with you too. You can practice one of my Online Yoga & Pilates Video Classes so you don't even have to think about the asanas you want to do! However, you decide to take your yoga outdoors I sincerely hope you make the most of the wonderful summer weather and give it a try soon.
